My Story
After moving from the United States in 2017, I had the opportunity to live in some of the most beautiful cities in the world. From Stockholm to Amsterdam, I finally settled in a city in the Netherlands (whose name is more commonly associated with the New York borough), Haarlem.
Now, I never imagined myself settling in Harlem (with one A), let alone Haarlem (with the original two A’s). But anyone who has been here can confirm this little city is charming beyond belief! For me, it’s the perfect place to start a family and a new chapter of life.
It was here, in Haarlem, that Home Alchemy was born—starting with a simple need. When I became pregnant with my daughter, I learned that lighting conventional (most store-bought) candles could release hidden toxins into the air. As someone who lives for that small but powerful ritual of lighting a candle, I didn’t want to give it up.
So I started making my own eco-conscious candles, using plant-based wax, clean-burning wicks, and ingredients free from paraffin, phthalates, and other unnecessary additives.
What began as a personal project quickly became a deeper passion for scent, craftsmanship, and intentional living.
Scent is incredibly personal. It has a way of evoking memories, shifting a mood, and bringing balance to the everyday. Scented (and unscented!) candles can soften a space, calm your mind, and should always feel good to burn.
That’s what Home Alchemy is all about. Each candle is hand-poured in small batches here in Haarlem—crafted with care, purpose, and (I like to think) just a little bit of magic.
